PPSU — the medical-grade polymer with excellent heat and chemical resistance — requires drying at 120 °C: without it sterilisability degrades. The EXT chamber adds an independent slot for this material at 120 °C — the MCU controls both chambers, each in its own Drying or Storage mode. Suitable for dry boxes, multi-chamber dryers and filament storage systems for PLA, PETG, ABS, PA, PA-CF, PC and other materials.

EXT module turns your iDryer Unit dryer into a dual-chamber system. Each chamber works independently: its own temperature, its own mode, its own schedule. PLA at 55 °C and nylon at 90 °C — simultaneously, without compromises or manual switching.

iDryer Unit EXT — full-featured additional chamber The EXT module — it's not just an extension or an empty housing. It's a full-featured iDryer Unit chamber that adds another independent filament drying and storage location to the system. The EXT module has the same working set as the main chamber: a 100W heater, a fan, an SHT-31 humidity sensor and a controlled damper for humid air extraction. The module supports all operating modes: Drying for drying, Storage for storing filament under controlled conditions, Profile. The main difference between EXT and the main MCU module is the absence of its own microcontroller. Control is handled by the main iDryer Unit MCU block, and connection is done with a standard RJ45 patch cable. The logic is simple: one MCU — one independent chamber. Added EXT — you got a second one. Connected another EXT — a third one. Total, up to four independent chambers can be connected to one MCU, each with its own temperature, mode and settings. This is how iDryer Unit can be assembled gradually: start with one chamber, then expand the system based on the number of spools, materials and printers in your workshop.
PLA wants 55 °C, nylon — 90 °C, ABS — 70–80 °C. Each module maintains its own temperature independently. Started printing two materials — both dry at the right parameters. No need to choose which plastic to dry first or wait for the chamber to free up.
One module actively dries a new PA spool. The second maintains already dried spools in Storage mode at 15–20% RH — without excessive heating, only when needed. Supplies are always ready to print. Nothing gets stuck and doesn't reabsorb moisture.
Start with one MCU. Buy EXT when you need a second chamber. Then another. Up to three EXT modules connect to one MCU — four independent chambers without replacing the main controller and without reflashing.

EXT connects to MCU with a standard RJ45 patch cable — exactly the same one you use to connect your router. No proprietary cables, no special tools. MCU automatically detects the new module on the next startup and adds it to the interface. Klipper sees all connected chambers as a single system — manage each separately via ready macros or via iDryer web portal. You can place modules in different housings and on different shelves — only the physical cable length limits placement.
One printer pulls PLA thread from the first module at 55 °C. The second — nylon PA from the second at 90 °C. Both modules work in parallel. No queues, no manual reconfiguration between sessions. Each printer gets its material at the right conditions.
Got a new PA spool from the pack — straight into EXT for active drying. Meanwhile MCU keeps already dried PETG in Storage mode at the right humidity. Both processes happen simultaneously, without your involvement. Supply is always ready to print.
ABS, PC, PETG, nylon — each at its own temperature, each in its own chamber. One MCU controls everything. No more need to manually switch modes for each print. The system itself maintains the right parameters in each module.
ABS housing holds up to 90 °C. PLA housing — up to 55–60 °C. Print the right housing for a specific material, connect it as EXT — and the system automatically gets a chamber with the right temperature range. Housing files are in open access on docs.idryer.org.
Yes. EXT doesn't work standalone — it connects to the MCU block via RJ45 patch cable and is controlled by it. If you already have iDryer Unit MCU, EXT simply adds an additional chamber to it.
